Kewl Haze
“Used to Have It All”
Yearning in a song. Had and lost. Back to searching. In some of the Kewl Haze songs, like “Double Black Diamond” and “Deep Breathing” you can here the Tame Impala influence,. But in others, like this one, all I hear is a band having a blast with sounds in the outer space galaxy that we all know as Philadelphia. High quality, enjoyable listen that works in the gym for its pace or for Sunday coffee for comfort and flow.
Jon Bolds
“SEVEN”
YO. THAT INTRO!! AND THEN THE DROP!!! I was bouncing and bobbing and weaving from the moment the beat came in and flow went crazy. Love the trippy bass vocalized chorus and Bolds going back and forth with it. This song is an EPIC. Just when you think you what this song is about, a new element unfolds and brings it into another dimension. The second verse is my favorite. RADIO SONG.
MAGGIE MARRE
“BOY ON THE MOON”
If you need any proof this is the catchiest song of all time, know that I’m a straight heterosexual male who’s walking around my country of Philadelphia singing “boy boy boy boy boy on the moon on the moon on the moon on the moon”. Think early Lourde. GOOOD STUFFF. The reprise for the last 80 seconds or so of the song might be my favorite part of it so stay till the end and follow Maggie Marre.
CONCOURSE
“AWAY FROM HERE”
Heavy indie/punk with a female lead… there’s just not enough of it. While all Councourse songs aren’t as hardcore as this one, they still exude that badass spirit in songs like “Spirit Persists” and “Sins”. Like all the other artists on this particular rendition of Radio Songs, Concourse is catchy as heckin’ frick. Follow Concourse and catch them live because it’s bound to be a great show with the power they bring to the stage as a collective.
ANTHONY WEXLER
“THE BIGGER PICTURE”
Mr. Wexler only needs his voice and his guitar for this lovely little jam, plus a few snaps and pick clicks on the wood of his acoustic guitar. The second verse, “my mom’s a landlord who can’t pay rent,” into the big chorus. Felt that one. It’s a wholesome song and a unique way to ask the ever important, “What the fuck is going on here?”
ROYSHA ARIELLE
“GIVE IT TIME”
Simple, comfortable, enjoyable, morning music. I feel like I need this to play every Wednesday morning — halfway through the week, not early enough to build on the momentum to have a productive work week, not late enough to feel the Friday vibes. An exemplary of feel good music.
THE INTRUDERS
“TOGETHER”
Now, typically I’m not writing about songs from 1967, but this one came on during a spotify motown/oldies playlist and I’d never heard it before… go ahead, let out your groans… and so I looked it up and whaddaya know? It’s a Gamble & Huff product. THAT INTRO. The raspy lead against the falsetto background vocals. SO GOOD. They just don’t make songs like this anymore.
