Philly Music Mover & Shaker, Kirby Sybert, Made A Wonderfully Cheery Debut Album, “Happy People Make Happy Things”

Kirby Sybert may or may not be associated with every musical act in Philadelphia (list of collabs at bottom of article), so it’s no wonder that his album, Happy People Make Happy Things, received a ton of local support. And given his ten thousand-hour level of dedication to the craft, it’s no wonder the album is littered with superb tunes capable of lifting a gloomy soul.

It’s palpable. Logging that kind of time has clearly lent itself to a high-quality sound, a precious one. The title of the album is very telling of the music itself. If the album was a day in your life, it would be a well-deserved, relaxing Sunday morning, that transformed from an impromptu homemade mimosa with cheap champagne you forgot you had into a rowdy, boozy brunch on the town and in the sun with friends.

If you’re looking to catch some of those vibes, to pocket some of that sunshine this winter, be sure to see him on February 4th at World Cafe Live.

Quarantine Dreams

Released in the middle of quarantine, the album served as a dreamy escape to many, offering the uplifting vibes that we all needed at one point or another. You can ride the guitar riffs alone to both a smile and a stank face.

Sybert achieved a songwriting feat that many writers only dream of by successfully penning a positive song about our inevitable demise, our mortality. “My Maker” is a beautiful, optimistic request for comfort and solace when our time comes.

“Without You” is probably my favorite song. It’s the most poppy of the bunch. The shoulders roll to it unconsciously.

Those ten thousand hours in the studio. It’s noticeable.

He has collaborated and/or played with Mo Lowda & The Humble, Roger Moutenot, Jon Patrick Walker, and Airpark. Video work with Barney Cortez, The Vegabonds, Commonwealth, Lady HD, Adult Mom, and House Plant.

Plus others he probably forgot to mention when I asked him.

Absolutely love this first song in the XPN session.
