Writer Highlight: Fibonacci Beans Substack by Nini
The talent in Philadelphia is overwhelming. We are a center of culture all our own with superstars around every corner. The world only holds so many dear. What we get to hear and experience in our little big town is something truly special. Artists, writers, comedians, musicians, and the many other exceptional creatives that call the greater Philly area home.
It’s my pleasure to highlight the intimacy and intricacy of a local Substack writer, Nini, and her Fibonacci Beans blog. A few favorites with excerpts below. Go subscribe if you’re a substacker.
“Because I and she feel like flesh against soul: abrasive, combative, acidic.
With each step I take, her claws dart out to trip me. I fall, desperate to get back up. But she oozes something sticky like sludge. Her aggressive voice an overlapping sound of insults and obscenities. They feel so real that when I look at myself in the mirror, I feel the fear of uncanny unfamiliarity.”
“I’m on standby but cannot receive orders. Existing but not present. Looking, but not seeing. I am at odds in my body. I’m restless from an unsettling vibration in my cells that causes a ringing in my ears and a static in my mind.
I read the same words over and over, unable to discern any meaning from them unless I read one word at a time aloud, and yet even that does not keep the meaning stable in my mind for retrieval.”
